Saturday, April 28, 2018. The Los Angeles Mission College Foundation along with their sponsors like the Sylmar Neighborhood Council. Put on a great event. The Food & Wine Festival is an annual celebration that brings together over 300 individuals from their student body, faculty, and local business community. Students from their award-winning Culinary Arts Institute created amazing dishes from around the world and served wonderful wines for the tasting. In addition, they had a hosting a special VIP section, silent auction, pastry pavilion, and live entertainment provided by local artists. In addition to being an incredible gastronomic event, the festival was a fund-raiser aimed at providing scholarships to deserving students.
Most people know that "Sylmar" means sea of trees. Well' this event in my simple opinion was a Sea of SNC. At one point I was upstairs looking out over the entire event and admiring our beautiful mountains. When looking down in every area and corner of the event, you could see a Sylmar Neighborhood Council Board Member, Committee Member or even an active stakeholder talking to another person about the Council and their Committees. It was nice walking back to the car after talking with so many neighbors and new sylmarians! I must not forget to mention that so many people waling back had our "I LOVE SYLMAR" bumper stickers.
The mission of Los Angeles Mission College Foundation is to raise funds and provide stewardship for funds already raised, through annual scholarship drives, special events, grant applications and business partnerships. Our goal is to provide a local financial support system to needy and deserving students entering and continuing their education at Mission College. Our vision is to improve the quality of life in our community by providing support for individuals from diverse backgrounds to pursue quality accessible educational programs and services.
