Sheldon Cabrera Miller
For 10 years and counting, Sylmar has been my home. I love living here and I’m happy to give back to my community. In regards to my council/committee experience, I served 2 years on the BOD for Founders Metropolitan Community Church as “Voice of the Congregation”. I also held a leadership position in the church for 12 years. I worked monthly with the Los Angeles County Commission on HIV for 10 years, gaining first hand experience with Brown Act regulations and parliamentary procedures. In addition, my 14 years teaching experience give me the necessary skills of patience, active listening, and accountability required for this work.
While on the council, should you appoint me, there are three areas of SNC’s work I would like to participate and tackle with you.
First, I would like to join the continued effort of community safety.
Second, increasing community outreach and education in health/fitness/recreation.
Lastly, I want to work on encouraging growth in our local businesses.
We live in a vibrant and diverse community. The SNC is a reflection of our community. And while it’s easy for me to complain about the challenges we face in our community, my actions and service work will demonstrate my passion, objectivity, and love for my community.
I’m happy to answer any questions regarding my experience, skills, or character.
